Emerson High School, which will welcome students in August as Frisco ISD’s 11th high school, has found its first head football coach and campus athletic coordinator.
Emerson’s athletics program will be led by Kendall Miller, who for the last nine years has been the head football coach and campus athletic coordinator at Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland ISD. His hiring was approved by the FISD Board of Trustees on Monday night.
Miller helped Lakeview qualify for the Class 6A playoffs four times in the last five years, including the 2020 season that was shortened by COVID-19 cancellations. Lakeview was 4-1 last year, and although it qualified for the playoffs, it was unable to play in the postseason because of required COVID-19 quarantines for players in the program.
The playoff berth in 2016 was Lakeview’s first in 21 years, and prior to Miller’s arrival at the school in 2012, Lakeview had gone 13 straight seasons without a winning record. Miller’s final three Lakeview teams all had winning records.
Miller, who has more than 20 years of coaching experience, was the head coach at South Oak Cliff from 2009 to 2012 and before that served as an assistant at Arlington high schools Bowie, Seguin and Sam Houston. He was also an assistant coach at Lincoln High School in Dallas ISD.
Miller is a 1999 graduate of Tarleton State University in Stephenville.
