Frisco ISD Basketball Teams Advance in Playoffs

FISD | 2/21/2021

Only eight girls basketball teams in all of 5A Region 2 can make it three rounds into the playoffs. For the third straight year, three of those eight teams are from Frisco ISD.

Liberty and Lone Star, which regularly make deep runs in the playoffs, this year are joined by Memorial. The Warriors earned their first and second playoff wins ever to advance to the regional quarterfinals.

Liberty, the defending 5A state champion, is in the regional quarterfinals for the ninth straight year and Lone Star is in the regional quarterfinals for the fifth straight year. Centennial, a regional quarterfinalist the last two years, lost to Wylie East in the first round.

Unfortunately, at least one of FISD’s three remaining teams won’t make it to the fourth round. That’s because Liberty and Memorial play each other Wednesday. In another regional quarterfinal, Lone Star, the District 9-5A champion, will face Wylie East, the District 10-5A champion.

FISD boys teams Wakeland and Heritage will also continue their playoff competition Wednesday night with second-round games.

Here are the regional quarterfinal matchups for FISD girls teams and the area-round matchups for FISD boys teams:
